Someone once explained synergy to me as 1+1=3. Two or more things together can be more effective than the sum of their individual parts. And so it is with medleys. Some songs have a more powerful effect when combined than the individual songs do alone. Besides, medleys are just fun! Listen to these new recordings of four of our favorite medleys:
“God’s Love” Medley (for soprano voices)
This medley combines the Primary songs “Because God Loves Me” and “I Am a Child of God.” It powerfully evokes the comforting reassurance that God does indeed love each one of us, his precious children.
“I Will Follow God’s Plan/ Come, Follow Me” Medley (for soprano voices)
Another beautiful concept for us to internalize through music… God has a plan for each of us. In fact, we made that plan with him before we came to earth. Following Christ will help us achieve success in finding and following that plan. I particularly love the ending of this medley. The two important phrases, “Come, follow me” and “I will follow God’s plan” are bounced back and forth between two singers or two groups of singers.

“Jesus Once Was a Little Child/ Tell Me the Stories of Jesus” Medley (for soprano voices)
This medley gives a broader picture of Jesus’ early years than either song separately. Fun to sing them together!

“Singing” Medley (SATB arrangement with optional flute descant)
For this medley, the folksong “How Can I Keep From Singing” combines forces with another folksong found in our Children’s Songbook, “Sing Your Way Home.” For anyone who loves music and singing… isn’t that all of us?… the words in these songs are powerful and express the feelings of our hearts. No wonder they have been beloved favorites for so many years. Together, they are even more powerful. There’s that synergy thing again!
